1 – The Shawshank Redemption

I watched a movie named The Shawshank Redemption in this winter vacation. This is a movie which has been No.1 on Douban’s rank for a long time. The film is about Andy’s redemption in a prison named Shawshank.

These walls are funny. First you hate ’em, then you get used to ’em. Enough time passes, you get so you depend on them. That’s institutionalized.

The theme of the film is very complex and one of the core themes is the criticism of “institutionalization”. Brooks, the librarian, who had spend most of his life in Shawshank, was paroled and freed eventually. However, after he was free, he could not connect with society and find his value to the world. So, he had no hope of life and hanged himself at last. At present, lots of place are institutionalized and it will make people live in a smaller circle. We must be critical, always maintain the ability to escape from the institutionalize.

2 – Zootopia

I watched a movie named Zootopia in this winter vacation. The film tells a story of July whose a rabbit. July realized her childhood dream and becomes an animal police officer through her own efforts in the Animal City where all animals are peacefully.

The historical evolution, scientific discovery are difficult, so we should look at the events with kindness, justice , courage and an open mind. Stay true to your original intention and try to allow things that are different from you happened. The world is always getting better.

3 – Liar Liar

Liar Liar(1997) is directed by Tom Shadyac, and written by Paul Guay and Stephen. Upon its release, the film was a critical and commercial success.

This film stars Jim Carrey as a lawyer who built his entire career on lying, but finds himself cursed to speak only the truth for a single day. During the day, he struggles to maintain his career and to reconcile his wife and son whom he alienated with his pathological lying.

The film deals with the theme of parent-teen relationships. We can see the trouble relationship between Sean and his father. In fact, Sean wants to talk with his father but dad always seems occupied with his work. Maybe this is a common problem between parents and their child in daily life. In addition, the lawyer makes a lot of humorous scenes when he lies and can’t lie, which makes the movie very attractive.

Liar Liar conveys a message that should be clear to all of us — everyone needs to focus on the parent-teen relationship. Moreover, in some situations, adults have to lie in some situations, but they mustn’t make it become a habit.
